AutoSavings automatically identifies and applies cost-saving opportunities using Reserved Instance (RI) and Savings Plan (SP) management.

  • Reserved Instance (RI): A discounted pricing model that lets you commit to a specific instance type for a one- or three-year term in exchange for lower rates.

  • Savings Plan (SP): A flexible pricing model that offers similar discounts but applies across different instance types, regions, and services based on your overall usage.

It analyzes your usage patterns, recommends the optimal mix of RI and SP purchases, and automates adjustments to maximize savings while minimizing unused commitments.

OpsNow AutoRI automatically buys and sells RIs on behalf of the customer to obtain the maximum possible RI coverage and utilization rate, all while removing the requirement of the customer to commit to using RIs for 1 or 3 year terms

Although the act of buying and selling is handled by AutoRI, the RIs’ ownership resides in each linked account.

In order for AutoRI to work as designed, there are some prerequisites to be configured.

  1. Buying process: RI purchase quota increase on each linked account AWS has placed a cap on the number of RI purchases per month. When you create your AWS instances, AWS sets default quotas (limits) on these resources on a per-region basis. The default limit for Reserved Instances is set to 20 per month, which is insufficient for OpsNow to fully utilize AutoRI's transaction algorithm.

  2. Selling process: Registering as a seller in AWS RI Marketplace Customers need to be registered as a seller in the AWS RI Marketplace. During registration, the customer will provide financial details to AWS in order to complete registration.

Both processes are required to be configured by the customer for AutoRI to optimally perform.

The detailed information for each of the above steps appear next.
